The City of McAllen Building Inspections Department would like to urge building owners with flat roofs, including businesses or homes, to inspect their roofs, drains and gutters.  Recent heavy and continuous rain events could cause major puddling and clogs which could lead to collapsed roofs or other damages or worse.

“With this excessive rain, we encourage anyone who lives or works in buildings with flat roofs, to inspect their roofs, just as a precautionary measure,” said Norma Yado, City of McAllen Chief Building Official.  “We want to ensure that our residents and business owners’ buildings are safe for themselves, their families or customers.”

Do not attempt to inspect roofs, drains, and gutters during heavy rain.  Use safe, sturdy ladders, placed on dry, secure footing, wear proper footwear and use proper equipment.
