McAllen wins 8 awards at TAFE conference

McAllen was up against other high-profile events such as the San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo, the Heart O’ Texas Fair and Rodeo and Grapevine’s Grapefest. In 2016 alone, the City picked up a total of 32 awards for the McAllen Holiday Parade, presented by La Plaza Mall, and 29 awards for Quinta Mazatlan.

Events include McAllen Holiday Parade, PalmFest and Concert in the Park

McAllen, TX– The City of McAllen is ringing in the new year, celebrating wins at the Texas Association of Fairs and Events conference.

McAllen brought home eight awards for city events including the McAllen Holiday Parade, PalmFest and Concert in the Park.  The McAllen Cable Network (MCN) and Quinta Mazatlan submitted applications for the first time this year and were recognized at the annual Texas Association of Fairs and Events conference held January 5-8 in San Antonio.

“The City of McAllen continues to raise the bar in the events, venues and productions that we put together.  These awards are a testament of the commitment of the City Commission and the execution by city staff to create a quality of life unmatched in the area” said McAllen City Manager Roel “Roy” Rodriguez, P.E. 

MCN picked up awards in the following categories:

Gold: Best Media Press Kit

Bronze: Best Specialty TV video 

QUINTA MAZATLAN

Gold: Best environmental green program- Planta Nativa- native plant week celebration

Gold: Best Program Flyer- QM rack card

Silver: Best Photo Series-Into the Wild at PalmFest

Silver: Best Promo Poster-Thursday Exploration Evenings

Bronze: Best Single Page Ad-The Earth Loves you Concert in the Park 

We were proud to take home the 1st place award for the Best Environmental Green Program in the state—celebrating native plant week in the valley with the Planta Nativa event,” said Quinta Mazatlan manager Colleen Hook. “Such an honor recognizes the city and citizens as leaders and good stewards of the environment in our state.”
