McAllen strengthens long-standing relationship with Mexico, Amigos Always

The City of McAllen, La Plaza Mall and the McAllen Chamber of Commerce’s Convention & Visitors Bureau recently hosted McAllen Day in Mexico City to create awareness about McAllen as a destination and to further relationships with friends and colleagues in Mexico.

The event included an expo, fashion show and press conference, featuring the McAllen International Airport, as well as the City of McAllen’s Metro and Parks & Recreation departments, and the McAllen Performing Arts Center. Door prizes, giveaways, and a fashion show presented by Dillard’s-La Plaza Mall were also a highlight of the event.

La Plaza Mall’s Isabel Rodriguez, Marketing Director and Roberto Luciano, General Manager were on hand during McAllen Day in Mexico City to represent the premier shopping locale in South Texas.

Other participants included IBC Bank, de Shopping Magazine and several local hotels, including Castle Hospitality, Drury Inn, Doubletree, Oceangate, and Smart iStay.

“This was a great event to remind travel agencies, tour operators, media and airline representatives about McAllen and the wonderful attractions and events found in our city,” said Elizabeth Suarez, Director of the McAllen International Airport.  “Additionally we promoted the non-stop flight offered by Aeromar from Mexico City to McAllen.  With five weekly frequencies, operating on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays, this has become an important flight that keeps our cities connected for personal and business travel.”

The group continues to promote that McAllen and Mexico are Amigos Always, highlighting the long-standing relationship that exists between the two.
