The City of McAllen Risk Management Department is once again hosting the Risk and Safety Expo starting on Wednesday, June 12 and concluding on Thursday, June 13, 2024. The 10th annual conference is taking place at the McAllen Convention Center, 700 Convention Center Blvd., with a conference registration fee of only $50, which includes all sessions, meals, and welcome reception.
“The City of McAllen promotes a positive safety culture that reflects all employees’ commitment to work safely and prevent injury,” said Yolanda Perez, Director of Risk & Safety for the City of McAllen. “The success of our safety culture is attributed to our employees, who naturally embrace a teamwork approach as opposed to individualism in the workplace. Providing continuing education, including this Risk & Safety Expo, on emerging risks and trends by our partners in the industry is vital to help keep all employees safe and demonstrates that the City of McAllen is committed to advancing knowledge in the areas of risk and safety within our community and adjacent partners.”
The conference is open to risk and safety professionals or anyone who is responsible for developing and implementing workplace safety and risk management policies from various organizations, including municipalities, counties, school districts and private businesses. Highlights of the conference include a Safety Recognition Awards luncheon, a keynote address by Tim Eggebraaten, an international motivational speaker, and multiple breakout sessions throughout event. Session topics will include workplace safety; aging workforce and claims; active threat and emergency preparedness, effective RTW programs, Risk financing, and 2024 legislative update for the drug & alcohol testing industry.
The McAllen Risk & Safety Expo is the only conference of its kind hosted in South Texas. For organizers, it was important to host a risk and safety conference for the smaller communities in the area that may not have the budget to travel to locations out of area for similar conferences. Over the years, the conference has drawn risk and safety professionals from many different parts of the state.
“Risk & safety professionals focus on identification and management of workplace health and safety risks, a top priority is always to ensure that every employee makes it home safely at the end of the day,” said Perez. “This conference will have the best experts in the field reinforcing best practices and preparation for emerging trends and challenges so attendees may go back to their workplaces and implement all that they have learned.”
