The City of McAllen Purchasing Department has once again – for the fourth time in a row! – earned the Annual Achievement of Excellence in Procurement Award. The Achievement of Excellence in Procurement recognizes organizational excellence in public and non-profit procurement. The City of McAllen Purchasing Department received this award back in 2018, 2019 and in 2020.
“This is an incredible award for the City of McAllen to have received three years in a row, because it recognizes the hard work, ethical leadership and transparency, and most importantly, the fiscal responsibility of not only our Purchasing Department, but also, the work of the entire City of McAllen and our McAllen City Commission,” said McAllen City Manager Roel “Roy” Rodriguez, P.E.
“We are all entrusted to be good stewards with the taxpayers’ money in our purchases for the equipment, supplies, and other elements necessary to provide the services to our community. I am very proud of the Purchasing Department for continuing to do work that is recognized to receive this well-deserved honor and I especially want to commend Gerardo Noriega, Director of the City of McAllen Purchasing and Contracting Department and his staff for their superior quality of work,” he concluded.
“For me, the true award is in the trust the McAllen Purchasing Department has from our City of McAllen administration and elected officials,” said Gerardo Noriega, Purchasing Director for the City of McAllen. “Participation in the AEP program encourages the development of excellence as well as continued organizational improvement to earn the award annually; however, our standard of excellence is set here with the guidance and direction we follow here at the City of McAllen.”
For 2021, there were 181 successful applicants including 64 cities, 41 counties, 36 special districts, 19 school districts, including McAllen I.S.D. 12 higher education agencies, seven state or provincial agencies and two others.
The award criteria are designed to measure innovation, professionalism, e-procurement, productivity and leadership attributes of the procurement function.
