McAllen – McAllen Public Library invites local authors to donate one copy of each of their published books to the library for inclusion in the local author collection. The local author collection will be housed at the Main Library and will feature works by homegrown authors.

The collection will be comprised of works by authors that reside in Hidalgo County. Authors must be ages 16 or older and books must be for adult or teen audiences. All books must be donated to the library. Once submitted, books will be reviewed by a selection committee and decisions will be based on presentation and readability with priority given to books that pertain to the Rio Grande Valley.

“McAllen Public Library recognizes and values the talent of our community. The local author collection will be a unique way to highlight our local authors and provide a way for more people to discover their works. More importantly, these books will be written by people from our own community and will serve to capture the unique experience of living in this part of the state” Kate Horan, Library Director, said.
