McAllen Public Library is kicking off its fifth annual book festival with an exciting name change: South Texas Book Festival. Formerly known as McAllen Book Festival, the South Texas Book Festival will take place on November 9-10, 2018 at the McAllen Public Library, 4001 N. 23rd Street. The event is free and open to the entire family.
“The change to South Texas Book Festival more accurately describes our expanded reach; especially, as many of our authors are from, or live in, South Texas,” said Kate Horan, McAllen Public Library Director. “Additionally, our programming also reflects South Texas culture and language, which is so important to feature since so many families from all over South Texas attend our event, which features the best in children’s and teens’ authors and fun activities for the whole family.”
The event kicks off on Friday, November 9 and will feature author discussions with local school groups so that students may directly engage with nationally recognized authors. Saturday, November 10 will continue to be free and open to the public from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. with multiple story times, author sessions, book talks, activities, presentations, books giveaways, free cotton candy and popcorn, and more.
South Texas Book Festival will kick off with weeklong festivities including activities from Monday, November 5 to Friday, November 9 to preview this year’s festival.
Held in the award-winning McAllen Public Library, the South Texas Book Festival will foster wider appeal across South Texas and the rest of the state.
Along with the new name, South Texas Book Festival has a new logo. The logo features bright colors to represent the book festival’s audience, children and teens, and a star icon to represent the state of Texas.
This year’s author lineup will be announced on Monday, September 17 and will showcase the spirit of South Texas Book Festival. For more information, contact the McAllen Public Library at (956) 681-3000.
