The McAllen Police Department, in partnership with the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) and other Hidalgo County law enforcement agencies, will be participating in Operation Slowdown, which will run from Friday, July 18, 2025 through Sunday, August 3, 2025 in an effort to promote safe driving in our community.

The McAllen Police Department will have officers on regular and overtime status during this period looking for drivers who are speeding, as well as other traffic violations. Speeding is the number one contributing factor in traffic crashes in our state.

Operation Slowdown is part of TxDOT’s “Be Smart. Drive Safe,” campaign, a key component of #DriveLikeATexan. The campaign encourages drivers to make safer choices when behind the wheel, such as wearing seat belts, driving the speed limit, never texting and driving, and never driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
