The McAllen City Commission approved the City of McAllen Police Department to assist the Milwaukee Police Department at the 2024 Republican National Convention (RNC), from July 15 through July 18, 2024, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The McAllen Police Department responded to a resource request by the City of Milwaukee Police Department for law enforcement assistance. McAllen’s Offer of Assistance was processed through the Emergency Management Assistance Compact (EMAC), a state-to-state mutual aid system that enables states to aid and share resources with another state in response to a disaster or emergency. The assistance offer was customized in a manner that will not affect the McAllen Police Department’s service capacity locally.
The McAllen Police Department’s offer of assistance to the City of Milwaukee was certified by the Texas Division of Emergency Management. The EMAC agreement includes reimbursement for 19 police officers’ salaries, as well as their travel, meals and hotel accommodations, as well as for equipment and other related costs, which totals $114,593.65.
“Supporting Milwaukee PD at the 2024 Republican National Convention is an opportunity to further develop our special event experience. The RNC is a national mass gathering event, and our experience there will be invaluable to the department and our officers as we continue to host events in McAllen that are gaining national interest,” said McAllen Police Chief Victor Rodriguez. “We are extremely proud to be amongst those agencies selected to assist at this event and look forward for our McAllen police officers to proudly represent the City McAllen in Milwaukee.”
