The McAllen Parks & Recreation Department takes the health and safety of our community as a top priority.  The City of McAllen has been and will continue to closely monitor information about the coronavirus (COVID-19) and recommendations from health officials to ensure every precaution is taken for the continued safety of our patrons.

PROGRAMS + EVENTS
 
In support of those recommendations and in accordance with the steps taken by the McAllen Independent School District and the McAllen Boys & Girls Club, effective Monday, March 16th, all regularly scheduled McAllen Parks & Recreation Department programs will be suspended until further notice, including senior living, youth evening, and adult programs. In the meantime, department staff will remain prepared to welcome back all of our participants as soon as it is deemed appropriate.  
  
COVID-19 SAFETY MEASURES
 
As of March 15, the McAllen Parks & Recreation Department has not received information suggesting that any patron or employee has contracted COVID-19.
 
We continue to strongly urge citizens to take precautions to protect their health and safety such as frequently washing their hands for at least 20 seconds, avoid touching their faces with unwashed hands, and covering their noses and mouths when sneezing or coughing.
 
Several safety measures have been implemented to protect everyone in our facilities, including increasing cleaning, sanitation, and urging staff members who are sick to stay home.

All City of McAllen parks will remain open.  Patrons are encouraged to continue visiting our parks, as regular exercise is essential to physical and mental well-being.  Due to the evolving nature of COVID-19, the City of McAllen is constantly monitoring conditions at all parks to determine if any adjustments are needed to ensure the safety of our parks and surrounding communities.

We also encourage residents to continue to check the Hidalgo County Health & Human Services Department and Centers for Disease Control websites for the most up-to-date information and guidance.
