McAllenThe McAllen metro area has been ranked as the third fastest growing area for residents and riches in 2015. This accolade takes top rank over other Texas metros such as El Paso, Houston, and Austin.

“This ranking demonstrates that McAllen and its surrounding cities are great places to live, work and prosper,” said Mayor Jim Darling. “The economic vitality of our area, as shown by the data, has resulted in better paying jobs and advanced career opportunities for our residents.”

While rapid growth statistics are consistently highlighting the McAllen region, industry leaders attribute the growth to international trade, tourism and McAllen’s low cost of living.

Selfstorage.com, a moving blog, identifies the most efficient and successful cities for customers to move to. The municipal analysis projects households in the McAllen metro area making two hundred thousand a year to grow at a rate of 142.9 percent. The data shows an additional 21.9 percent population growth rate by the year 2024.

With a metro population of more than 850,000, and unemployment at seven percent, McAllen’s geographic location by the border has allowed the region to maximize their recruiting and retention efforts. The area offers rich experiences in food, festivals, parades, and two new universities that will enhance educational opportunities, and higher paying jobs.

“There are many factors entrepreneurs and families consider when moving to a city. A few of the major ones are climate, safety, business expansion, education and talent acquisition. McAllen, and the region, has that and much more, said City Manager Roel “Roy” Rodriguez, P.E.  “We are developing daily and when we develop, we create jobs, which means a successful, healthy economy for the Rio Grande Valley.”
