McAllen has picked up some more statewide recognition. An article highlighting the city’s signature facility, the ultra-modern McAllen Performing Arts Center (MPAC), was featured in Texas Town & City’s August beautification issue.
The MPAC has been open for less than a year and has cemented itself as the premier entertainment facility in South Texas.
The three-page write-up in the state publication tells the story of how an idea that began in 1977 finally came to fruition in 2016 when the MPAC opened its doors to acts such as Tony Bennett and first-class Broadway performances.
“What a wonderful story,” said Christina Corrigan, Deputy Executive Director of Communications, Programs and Editor of Texas Town & City. The publication wanted to “feature it as a model and inspiration to other cities.”
The McAllen Performing Arts Center is anticipated to draw in more than 200 first class performances a year, featuring concert tours, comedy acts, symphonic orchestra, musicals and ballets, as well as popular family show tours.
“The effort that went into making this facility a reality was truly a labor of love and the end result is something that our whole community can be proud of,” said McAllen City Manager Roel “Roy” Rodriguez, P.E. “Additionally, it is important to continue to highlight how McAllen is truly one of the leading municipalities in the state, with innnovative infrastructure projects that add value to the city.”
Texas Town & City is the official magazine of the Texas Municipal League. Published eleven times annually, the magazine provides timely information for city leaders across the Lone Star State.
