McAllen, Texas – Superintendent Dr. Jose Gonzales and Danny Vela, Board President of McAllen ISD will speak at the noon luncheon of the McAllen Citizens League about the proposed tax ratification election. The meeting is scheduled for Thursday, May 24that the Salvation Army Center located at 23rdStreet at Pecan in McAllen.

The election, known as TRE, would allow the McAllen school district to leverage more funding from 11.5 cents out of its total tax rate of $1.155 per $100 valuation, using them to fill a void left by expiring disaster funding. “This is a very important issue for the citizens of McAllen”, said Christopher Julian President of the League. “School district officials here are reaching out to the public for feedback on possible plans to place a tax ratification election before voters this fall”, Julian added.

In addition to the talk, the league will vote on its new officers & board members as well as bylaws amendments.
