McAllen ISD will be sending a baker’s dozen of students to the State Science & Engineering Fair later this spring.
These students qualified after competing in the Regional Science & Engineering Fair held virtually February 27.
For McAllen ISD, 37 of 47 participating students took either first, second or third place in their category. Thirteen advanced to state. These include:
Mariem Banales, Cathey Middle School; Gabriella Herrera, Cathey; Emma Nelson, Cathey; Gabriel Chavez, De Leon Middle School; Amanda Fuentes, Fossum Middle School; Aaron Garza, Fossum; Itzel Ramos, Fossum; Mark Solis, Fossum; Genesis Vasquez, Fossum; Lily Cavazos, Morris Middle School; Aiden Ernest, Morris; Kenzi Ramirez, Morris; and Ricardo Salinas, Morris.
In addition, two students earned special awards. They are Solis from Fossum and Ernest from Morris. Ernest received a $250 gift card and Raspberry Pi personal computer kit from BROADCOM as gifts.
Texas State Science and Engineering Fair pre-judging begins this month. The finalists will be interviewed remotely on April 10.
