Fans can donate items at football game tonight
As part of McAllen ISD’s efforts to provide hurricane relief assistance, the district will hold a “Fill the Bus” campaign at tonight’s season-opening football game.
A McAllen ISD school bus will be parked in front of the gates this evening at UnitedMix Pharmacy Field at McAllen Veterans Memorial Stadium. Fans attending the game between McAllen High and Harlingen South are invited to provide items that will then be transported to Aransas County ISD which was recently devastated by Hurricane Harvey.
Suggested items include:
- Toiletries
- Clothes for children & adults
- Shoes for children & adults
- Non-perishable foods
- water bottles
- blankets
- towels
The school bus will be parked along Bulldog Drive on the north side of the stadium. Fans can drop off their items just before they enter gates on the northwest or northeast corners. The bus will be accepting donations from 6 p.m. until halftime. The game will begin at 7:30 p.m.
The district will also have buses available at the next two varsity football games at the stadium. This includes the McAllen High vs. PSJA Memorial High game on Thursday, Sept. 7, and the James “Nikki” Rowe vs. Mercedes game on Friday, Sept. 8.
Helping others in a time of need is a value the McAllen ISD family holds close to the heart. The district is now a “sister district” with Aransas County ISD. Each McAllen ISD Vertical Team will focus on collecting different items of need at their respective campuses during the collection campaign.
- James “Nikki” Rowe Vertical Team: canned goods
- Memorial & McAllen High Vertical Teams: toiletries
- Achieve Early College High, Lamar Academy, I&G Center and District Administration: bottled water
Donations should be dropped off at a campus by Friday, September 15.
