McAllen ISD captures 54 All-District Choir spots – most of any district

McAllen ISD led all school districts with 54 students qualifying for the All-District Choir following auditions earlier this fall.

In fact, McAllen ISD students earned 34 percent of the total spots at the Region 15 Texas Music Educators’ Association District High School Choir auditions.

Three students were named top performer in their section – Soprano Brianna Amaya of James “Nikki” Rowe High, Bass James Richardson of Rowe and Baritone Joseph Silva of McAllen High.

Rowe High had 22 students selected, the most of any school. There were also 18 students from McAllen High and 14 from McAllen Memorial High.

This audition is the first step for students to be selected for the TMEA Texas All-State Choir.

“Congratulations to these very talented McAllen ISD high school choir students,” McAllen ISD Fine Arts Director Jim Egger said. “I also want to congratulate Stacy Gonzalez, Rowe High Vertical Team Head Director; Rigo Reyes, McAllen High Vertical Team Head Director; and Omar Samaniego, Memorial High Vertical Team Head Director; and their staffs for an outstanding job.”

The Rowe All-District Choir students include Soprano 1 – Courtney Smith, Maia Gimotea, Dariana Munoz; Soprano 2 – Brianna Amaya, Emily Gonzalez; Alto 1 – Ivanna Rodriguez, Mayrin Perez; Alto 2 – Brianna Melendez, Ana Caren Gutierrez, Abisai Delgadillo; Tenor 1 – Dylan Moreno; Tenor 2 – Hector Lopez; Baritone – James Richardson, Matthew Antonio, Oscar Humphrey, Jordon Murillo, Joseph Gonzalez; Bass – Joey Partida, Adam Alvarado, Gabriel Trevino, D.J. Zayas, and Zane Moubray.

McAllen High students include Soprano 1 – Christina Lopez, Cassandra Femat, Aria Shirah, Heather Gager; Soprano 2 – Regina Perez; Alto 1 – Natalie Carmona; Alto 2 – Sarah Vargas, Arianna Shatto, Pily Stevens; Tenor 1 – Sara Garcia, Aaron Reyes, Daniel Su; Tenor 2 – Sean Solis, Brendan Lopez, Ryan Ramirez; Baritone – Tyler Warwas; Bass – Kris Azufra and Joseph Silva.

Memorial High students include Soprano 1 – Audra Wright, Evie Martinez, Karina Falcon, Savannah De La Garza; Soprano 2 – Angela Houghton, Alyssa Galvan, Itzel Fuentes, Maya Peralez; Alto 1 – Adriana Trejo, Andrea Ashburn, Andrea Tamez; Baritone – Aaron Tawil; Bass – Alexander Pearson and Nicholas Houghton.
