The annual car show will host 300 vehicles, plus an Extreme 4×4 Obstacle Course, Lego Derby Race, BBQ Cook-Off and more!

McAllen, TX, The ninth annual McAllen International CarFest kicks off next weekend, starting on Friday, January 25 and continuing through Sunday, January 27, 2019. This year, organizers have added a number of new activities to the event schedule, including an Off-Road Extreme 4×4 Obstacle Course, a LEGO© Derby Race, a bar-be-que cook-off and more. Thanks to sponsors which include sponsored by Reliant, Payne Auto Group and Bert Ogden & Fiesta Dealerships of the Rio Grande Valley, the award-winning car festival will be bigger and tougher than ever before.
“This year we have worked hard to bring even more events, activities, and attractions to the McAllen International CarFest,” Marketing & Special Events Supervisor Stephanie Ramirez said. “There will be something for everyone to enjoy.”
Next weekend’s event will feature more 300 cars on display, from exotic models, to muscle cars and even celebrity vehicles like the Batmobile, which measures over 20 feet long. All proceeds from the show’s registration fees will be donated to the Make-A-Wish Foundation of the Rio Grande Valley.
McAllen International CarFest 2019 will be more extreme than ever with this year’s Off-Road Extreme 4×4 Obstacle Course. Registered participants will be able to navigate a custom-built obstacle course to test their 4×4 vehicles in front of spectators.
Also new this year will be the McAllen International CarFest Lego© Derby Racing Challenge. This event will be fun for the entire family and people of all ages. Participants will be able to build their very own Lego© Derby Racing Car and compete against others on a designated racetrack.
This year’s event will also feature the movie, “Gone in 60 Seconds,” shone in drive-in style, which will be free to the public on a first-come, first-served basis. This special showing will take place at the McAllen Convention Center, 700 Convention Center Boulevard, EAST parking lot (by War Memorial), on Friday, January 25 at 7:30 p.m., with guests invited to arrive as early as 6:30 p.m. Attendees will be able to hear the movie by tuning in to their FM dial on their vehicle’s radio.
One of McAllen International CarFest 2019’s most exciting additions includes a B-B-Q Cook-Off, which will take place Saturday, January 26. Participants will be judged in categories that include chicken, ribs, brisket and People’s Choice. There will also be live music and local food trucks for guests to enjoy throughout the weekend-long event.
Regular admission to the event is $15 for adults and FREE for kids under 12 years of age, while current serving military, veterans and furloughed government employees will receive free admission to CarFest on Friday, January 25 from 4:00-9:00 p.m. Just bring appropriate government-issued I.D.
