McAllen, TX – The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) announced it has granted $1.6 billion this year through the Airport Improvement Program (AIP) grants for various projects to improve runways, airfields, and airport facilities. 

The FAA awarded McAllen International Airport $6.2 million for drainage, erosion control, pavement management study, and airfield safety design. 

“The federal funding awarded to our airport will help start and complete capital improvement projects aimed at passenger safety. We are grateful for the support of our legislative representatives and their teams for their vested commitment in securing funding for our McAllen International Airport as we work together in enhancing airport infrastructure for the benefit of our community,” said McAllen City Manager Roel “Roy” Rodriguez, P.E.

“McAllen International Airport works continuously in advancing infrastructure and equipment improvements by effectively requesting AIP funding from the FAA in collaboration with McAllen’s leadership and congressional representatives. We are dedicated to ensuring that grant funds are responsibly allocated and utilized for the completion of these essential projects,” said Director of Aviation Elizabeth Suarez.
