The McAllen Housing Commission’s (MHC) Executive Director Rodolfo “Rudy” Ramirez was elected President for the Housing Association of Valley Employees-South Texas Region (HAVE-STR) on August 16.

HAVE-STR is an organization consisting of agencies and individuals who administer housing and community development in the South Texas region through the provision of adequate and affordable housing. MHC, formerly McAllen Housing Authority, is an active member and plays a role in the various efforts spearheaded by the association, including the annual scholarship program. HAVE STR services the high school seniors in the respective housing agencies via an annual scholarship to support those wishing to pursue higher education.

“I consider it an honor to be selected by my peers to serve as president for this organization,” Ramirez said. “I’m excited to venture onto to bigger and better things, especially after the past couple of years. The recent pandemic definitely hindered our physical ability to come together to work collectively. However, it did not stop us from wanting to create greater opportunities for the families we service.”
