Thalia Lee Menchaca, a 2020 graduate of McAllen High School, has been named to the 2020 All State Journalism staff for the second year in a row.

It is achieved by participating in UIL practice meets, district, regional and state UIL Journalism categories. Students earn points for competing but more points for placing. Lee Menchaca placed at almost every meet.

“To accomplish it any year is something to be proud of but to achieve it on a year when pre-district, district, regional and state competitions were all cancelled is a huge accomplishment,” McAllen High Journalism Teacher Jennifer Rodriguez said. “In 2019 she was also the district Feature Writing Champion and was Editor-in-Chief for the 2020 Yearbook and was an essential part of us being able to complete the book remotely.”

Lee Menchaca was the Copy Editor for the 2017 and 2018 yearbooks while serving on the McAllen High Yearbook Staff for four years. She is now studying journalism at the University of Texas in Austin.
