Ride away with McAllen B-Cycle
McAllen– McAllen B-Cycle, the city’s new bike share program, is now available to the community.
“We are excited to launch this new project that will provide so many great benefits to our community. McAllen B-Cycle helps promote a healthy and active lifestyle, provide an additional mobility option to users, as well as reduce traffic congestion,” said Transit Director Mario Delgado.
McAllen B-Cycle launched with a total of eight stations and 80 bikes around the City that were funded in part by a Federal Transit Administration grant. McAllen B-Cycle is the first bike-sharing program to launch in South Texas, and mirrors programs such as those in Austin, San Antonio, Fort Worth, Houston, and El Paso. The program complements the City’s existing public transportation system and provides residents and visitors, a healthy and convenient way to move around.
The eight stations in McAllen are located strategically to facilitate mobility in major destination areas. The locations are: Fireman’s Park, 2nd Street Hike and Bike Trail, McAllen Convention Center, Palms Crossing, Archer Park, Heritage Center (Main and Chicago), Broadway Park and Ride (Broadway and Houston), and Bicentennial Park and Ride (Bicentennial and Austin). Users can access bikes at any of these locations and ride them to their place of destination.
Bikes can be returned to any of the stations. Citizens who want to use the program must first purchase a membership using a credit card. Members then have access to the bikes at one-hour intervals without incurring any additional user fees. Membership costs are: 24-hours $6, 7-day $15, 30-day $30, and annual $65.
