As part of the continued activities by the City of McAllen to celebrate Women’s History Month, the city hosted a breakfast symposium on International Women’s Day, for their female employees. This year, organizers identified female trailblazers in McAllen and their respective fields who participated in the presentation.
According to City Manager Roy Rodriguez, the purpose of the call was to recognize women is twofold: to highlight the City of McAllen as a leader among Rio Grande Valley and other border municipalities, thanks in part, to the contributions of the women in the organization; as well as to encourage all of its female employees to think beyond their current position, to persist and to motivate them to seek more opportunity within the city.
“This is a great opportunity to look at all of the different factors that make our city great,” said Mayor Darling. “The contributions of women moving the City of McAllen forward, in all aspects, cannot be stressed enough.”
