The City of McAllen will host a live, free dance event to help encourage McAllen citizens and residents to move and exercise during the day for better health and peace of mind.
The hour-long session will feature lively dance tunes of all genres, including 80s, 90s and Latin pop, as well as rock, hip hop, country line dancing and of course, Tejano. City of McAllen Property Claims Adjustor and weekend DJ Art Cantu will serve as the event DJ.
“We want people to be able to get the health benefits of moving, but still be able to go back to the office if they need to,” said Mayor Villalobos. “It should be a really fun exercise session to get the blood flowing.”
No special equipment or supplies will be required, as the movements and intensity depend on the dancer. Comfortable clothes are best, but the idea is that if people must return to work, they can do so easily.
The event is being coordinated as part of the City of McAllen’s participation in the Healthier Texas community health challenge competition. Participants will be asked to register for the challenge by downloading the app, if they are not signed up and all will be asked to check-in to help earn points for the City of McAllen, which receives points for the number of people who check-in to the various activities. McAllen has won FIRST place in the Large City category for the past seven years.
