In a spirited kickoff to one of the city’s most eagerly awaited cultural events, McAllen Commissioner Joaquin Zamora, representing Mayor Javier Villalobos, officially welcomed attendees to the MXLAN Festival at the McAllen Convention Center. This vibrant celebration of art and music culture, which will take place from May 3rd to May 5th, exemplifies the city’s dedication to innovation and unity.
Commissioner Zamora eloquently shared his enthusiasm for the festival: “It is with great pleasure and excitement that I stand before you today as we announce the highly anticipated MXLAN Festival. As a commissioner of this truly remarkable city, I am impressed and immensely proud to witness the McAllen Convention Center District transformed into a canvas of creativity.” He emphasized that MXLAN is more than an event; it’s the spirit of McAllen, a spirit that declares, “If We Can, We Will!”
City Manager Roel ‘Roy’ Rodriguez followed with words of gratitude for all those involved in making the festival a reality, highlighting the city’s boldness in turning ideas into reality and praising the collective effort that goes into organizing such a spectacular celebration. He reflected on the importance of remembering one’s roots and coming together as a community to celebrate achievements and cultural heritage.
Assistant City Manager Joe Vera capped off the speeches by recognizing McAllen’s achievements in becoming a world festival and events city. He attributed this success to the dedicated team, passionate creativity, and the support of partners and sponsors. Vera’s vision of creating destination events has been realized through efforts and financial support from the community and partners like the McAllen International Airport, McAllen Chamber of Commerce, and many others.
MXLAN is not just a festival; it reflects McAllen’s spirit—a city that thrives on diversity, embraces creativity, and unites to celebrate its cultural roots and achievements. From Commissioner Zamora to City Manager Rodriguez and Assistant City Manager Vera, the city’s leadership stresses the importance of community, creativity, and working together to make MXLAN a leading cultural celebration festival in the United States.
