Family Living with ALS Attend for Support
McALLEN – McAllen City Commissioners want to raise awareness and funds for the Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) organization by taking on the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge. Mayor Pro Tem/Commissioner Hilda Salinas, Mayor Pro Tem/Commissioner Aida Ramirez and Commissioner Veronica Vela Whitacre will take on the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge Thursday, August 21, 2014 at 1:30 pm at the McAllen Public Library in front of the fountain. They each will nominate three people to take the challenge on Friday, August 22, 2014 at 5 p.m. at McAllen Sports Park (formerly De Leon Soccer Complex).
The Texas Chapter of ALS in Irving, Texas will provide a local family with ALS to provide information about the disease and their efforts in educating and raising awareness about ALS for research and a cure. ALS is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord.
