McAllen City Commissioner Omar Quintanilla has announced his intention to seek re-election for a third term representing District 3. In a recent Facebook post, he expressed his enthusiasm for continuing his service: “After serving two terms as your McAllen City Commissioner for District 3, I’m excited to announce that I will be seeking re-election!” He emphasized the honor of serving the community and his eagerness to continue working with the constituents of both District 3 and the broader McAllen area.

First elected in 2017, Quintanilla has focused on various initiatives during his tenure. Notably, he has strongly advocated for improving drainage systems, enhancing neighborhood safety, supporting small businesses, and promoting economic development opportunities. In his first term, he supported drainage projects in District 3 and throughout McAllen to reduce flooding, the creation of parks and walking trails for health and wellness, small business grants to support local businesses affected by the pandemic, Wi-Fi access to keep students connected, and improving safety in neighborhoods and throughout the district.

In his previous re-election bid in 2020, Quintanilla highlighted his commitment to these areas and the importance of continued progress.

He also emphasized the significance of community engagement, maintaining strong accessibility for citizens, and communicating through regular town hall meetings and other channels.

As the Senior Vice President of Corporate Banking at Frost Bank, Quintanilla brings a wealth of finance experience to his commissioner role. His involvement with the McAllen Chamber of Commerce has further enabled him to support small businesses, particularly during challenging times like the COVID-19 pandemic.

Looking ahead, Quintanilla remains firm in his dedication to the community. He acknowledges that while much has been accomplished, significant work remains. He is asking for the community’s support to continue building a brighter future for families, businesses, and the broader community.
