The McAllen International Friendship Youth Baseball Tournament is inspired by 1957’s Little League Champions from Monterrey Mexico that that made a short stop in McAllen before making history by playing a Perfect Game. The tournament is scheduled to take place at the McAllen Youth Baseball Complex from November 16-18, 2018 and will feature youth baseball teams from Mexico and the United States.

“The game of baseball has always been important to South Texas and northern Mexico border because it is more than just a game; it unifies two communities living on each side of the Rio Grande,” said Mayor Darling.  “We are excited to host this tournament and see great baseball here in our community of McAllen, where everyone is always welcome!”

With a three-game guarantee, the MIYB tournament will pack great games and family-friendly experiences throughout the weekend!  The tournament will incorporate rules of various youth baseball play, including Little League and International Ball, so teams looking for a challenge will certainly find one at this tournament.  The registration fee is $125 per team; however, the sports tourism department of the McAllen Chamber of Commerce has a limited number of team scholarships for international teams participating in MIYB!  Additionally, all teams will receive free entrance into Tamale Fest, a festival celebrating the unique culture of South Texas taking place right here in McAllen that very weekend!
