(McAllen, TX)  Victor A. Flores, an Assistant City Attorney with the McAllen City Attorney’s Office has been elected to membership in the Fellows of the Texas Bar Foundation. Fellows of the Foundation are selected for their outstanding professional achievements and their demonstrated commitment to the improvement of the justice system throughout the state of Texas. According to the Foundation, election is a mark of distinction and recognition of Flores’s contributions to the legal profession.

“The City of McAllen’s City Attorney’s has some of the best legal minds that continue to set the bar for how attorneys should work in this field and in the community,” said McAllen City Manager Roel “Roy” Rodriguez, P.E. “I am not surprised that Victor was chosen amongst his peers to help contribute to the work of the Texas Bar Foundation.”

The Texas Bar Foundation is the largest charitably funded bar foundation in the country. Founded in 1965 by lawyers determined to assist the public and improve the profession of law, the Texas Bar Foundation has maintained its mission of using the financial contributions of its membership to build a strong justice system for all Texans. To date, the Texas Bar Foundation has distributed more than $16 million throughout Texas to assist nonprofit organizations with a wide range of justice-related programs and services.

Flores serves as an advisory member on the Texas Bar Journal – Board of Editors; Council Member for the State Bar of Texas Government Law Section; TYLA District 25 Representative to the American Bar Association; and Director for the Hidalgo County Bar Association, where he helps to organize various community service projects and provide continued legal education opportunities for attorneys practicing in Hidalgo County. Prior to practicing law, he served as a Staff Sergeant in the United States Marine Corps (Infantry) and is an Iraq War veteran. He graduated from the University of Texas-RGV and Western Michigan University – Cooley Law School.

Flores serves all city departments, but focuses on advising the Planning, Engineering, Parks & Recreation departments and a few city boards including the Planning and Zoning Commission, Zoning Board of Adjustment, and McAllen Development Corporation. In addition, he assists the City’s litigation defense team.

“I am extremely proud that Victor was elected to this prestigious foundation of attorneys to help them with their mission to provide legal assistance to worthwhile causes throughout the state,” said Kevin Pagan, City Attorney, City of McAllen.

Selection as a Fellow of the Texas Bar Foundation is restricted to members of the State Bar of Texas. Each year one-third of one percent of State Bar members are invited to become Fellows. Once nominees are selected, they must be elected by the Texas Bar Foundation Board of Trustees. Membership has grown from an initial 255 Charter Members in 1965 to more than 9,000 Fellows throughout Texas today.
