EDINBURG (Monday, July 24, 2017) — Mayor Richard Garcia, surrounded by his family and supporters, filed for another term in office as Edinburg’s top official today at City Hall.

“Strategic planning, persistence and continuity have made Edinburg what it is today,” Garcia said. “Great cities aren’t built on fly-by-night promises. The kind of growth that our city is experiencing today does not happen by chance.  It happens with vision, careful planning, collaboration and execution.  It is built on a solid foundation that has stood the test of time, by hard-working men and women who are focused on the future.”

Since his first term in office, Mayor Garcia has pursued a progressive vision that has transformed Edinburg from the small town it was in the mid-2000s into the Rio Grande Valley’s fastest growing city today; a destination city.  His work with the Edinburg Economic Development Corporation has made the city into the region’s most business-friendly city, providing the city with hundreds and hundreds of new jobs for its residents.

“As your Mayor,” Garcia said, “it is my duty craft a vision for the future of Edinburg that is worthy of   the generations to follow, and to persevere until that vision becomes reality. Developing our economy and fostering growth allows us to have that vibrant future without ever raising taxes.”

“And for the record, lets make crystal clear that the 800+ employees of the City of Edinburg are among the finest I’ve known and I thank each of them!  A well defined plan is incomplete without a qualified team to execute and we have the best.” Added Mayor Garcia when highlighting the city’s growth and success.

During his tenure as the Mayor of Edinburg, the city has seen the core signs of a strong economy:

● an increase in credit rating to stellar AA accredited to its sound financial management (Rio Grande Guardian – July 18, 2016)
