EDINBURG – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) men’s tennis team learned on Tuesday that the doubles team of junior Mateo Schmit and sophomore Michael Loyd have been named Western Athletic Conference Men’s Double Team of the Week.
The duo went 2-0 over the weekend after defeating Lamar’s Brock Lauer and Arthur Serafim 6-4, which was the only doubles point for UTRGV.
Schmit and Loyd followed with another 6-4 win over Southern Miss’ Tom Cecchetto and Matthieu Peres, which helped clinch the doubles point for UTRGV.
The pair of wins were the first two wins for the duo this season.
UTRGV will be back in action this weekend when it competes in the H-E-B Tournament of Champions in Corpus Christi starting on Friday.
