“As a family, we have always taken pride in serving our community and others, and I was raised with the belief that family comes before all. In this upcoming Primary Election, 2022, my brother, Terry Palacios, is embarking on a countywide race for Hidalgo County District Attorney. Our family has decided to stand together, focused and united, to help him in his campaign.
Therefore, after much consideration, I have chosen to withdraw my candidacy for my former position of Justice of the Peace, Precinct 4, Place 2. I was honored to have served the community of Edinburg and the surrounding areas as Justice of the Peace for several terms. During my tenure on the bench, this court was a key part in presiding over 47,000 truancy cases and had a successful rate of 89%. I take with me knowing that countless students’ lives were changed for the better.
Unfortunately, as many of you are aware, I was wrongfully accused of oppression by a DA who was in office at the time I held my position. Thankfully, our justice system prevailed and I was exonerated of all charges by the Court of Appeals. However, I was unable to resume the position to which the people elected me.
I had wanted to run for office to reclaim my former position as your Justice of the Peace. However, as public servants, sometimes, we are called to make decisions that may not be beneficial to us personally but are in the best interest of the people of Hidalgo County. Such is the case, and, humbly, I defer.
I believe that we must keep the integrity of the District Attorney’s Office intact and Terry Palacios is the person for that role. At this time, my efforts must turn to standing beside my brother for my full support of his election.
I am truly humbled and blessed with the outpouring of support from my community, friends, family and children Eric, Aron, Ruben and nine grandchildren.
I will continue to serve my community and to be a spokesperson for fair elections and our political party. If there is ever a place or time that my community needs me in this office or in any other, I will be ready to serve.
Muchísimas gracias por su apoyo!
Dios los bendiga.”
