EDINBURG, Texas – U.S. Border Patrol agents seize more than 550 pounds of marijuana, intercept human smuggling attempts, and disrupt a stash house operation over the weekend.

This morning, Border Patrol agents assigned to the Falfurrias checkpoint referred a tractor trailer to secondary inspection after a service K-9 alerted. During the secondary inspection, agents encountered 20 subjects in the refrigerated trailer hidden among produce.

Yesterday, agents assigned to the Rio Grande City station disrupted a stash house operation that resulted in the apprehension of seven illegal aliens and two caretakers.

On Saturday, agents working at the Falfurrias checkpoint encountered five subjects hidden in the cab of a tractor trailer following a K-9 alert.

And, three separate narcotic smuggling attempts resulted in the seizure more than $440,000.00 worth of marijuana.

The public is encouraged to take a stand against crime in their communities and report suspicious activity at 800-863-9382. “Operation Big Rig” is a campaign to combat smuggling and ultimately save lives. Call 911 to report suspicious activity; “They’re humans, not cargo!”

Even with the spread of the COVID-19 virus, human smugglers continue to try these brazen attempts with zero regard for the lives they endanger nor to the health of the citizens of our great nation.  The U.S. Border Patrol agents of the Rio Grande Valley Sector will continue to safeguard the nation and community against these criminal elements.
