BROWNSVILLE, Texas – Rio Grande Valley Border Patrol (RGV) agents seize over 200 pounds of marijuana in Brownsville from three events. One of the seizures was the result of a tractor operator clearing brush.

On Dec. 15, Brownsville Border Patrol Station (BRP) agents responded to a call from a tractor operator that was clearing brush on a property near the Rio Grande in Brownsville. The agents were advised by the heavy machinery operator of the discovery of the two apparent bundles of marijuana. One bundle was intact and the other had been torn open by the tractor. The scattered marijuana remnants were placed in a property bag and sealed. The total weight of the seized marijuana was 46 pounds and is valued at more than $36K.

Later that evening, a BRP agent observed an individual in a tree near a golf course in Brownsville. The man appeared to be surveilling for the presence of law enforcement authorities. Agents responded to the location and confirmed suspicious activity in the area. Five individuals were observed wading the Rio Grande back into Mexico. Agents on horseback and All-Terrain Vehicles searched the area discovered three bundles of marijuana that weighed more than 94 pounds, worth approximately $75K.

On Dec. 14, Fort Brown Border Patrol Station agents responded to suspected narcotic smuggling activity near the Rio Grande in Brownsville. Agents searched the area and discovered three abandoned bundles of marijuana, but were unable to locate any suspected smugglers. The marijuana was transported to the station and weighed more than 75 pounds and is estimated to be worth more than $60K. The public is encouraged to take a stand against crime in their communities and report suspicious activity
