Laredo, Texas — On Thursday, December 9th, Mayor Pete Saenz joined Nuevo Laredo Mayor, Carmen Lilia Canturosas Villarreal, to sign the Cross-Border Contingency Plan. The signing ceremony took place at “Estación Palabra Gabriel García Márquez” in Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas, which is an old railway station that is now used as a space to promote literature and culture. With a purpose to establish mutual cooperation to respond effectively to threats, public health, and safety of the communities due to incidents that require mutual assistance, representatives from both cities reconvened after two years to promote the signing of such plan. For example, this would include training sessions for firefighters in Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas.
“Through the efforts of both cities, it is important to prioritize the safety of our citizens,” stated Mayor Saenz during the ceremony. “We continue to do this by providing such resources that will meet the goals of our sister city to ensure the safety and prosperity of its community.”
Other City representatives that attended the ceremony included City Manager, Robert A. Eads, City Secretary, Jose Valdez, and Laredo Fire Department Chief, Guillermo Heard. The City of Laredo looks forward to continuing strengthening its binational relationship with Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas through programs that will help the prosperity of both communities.
