Brownsville, TX – Local Rio Grande Valley (RGV) restaurant, Wing Barn, is alerting the community about a national chicken wing shortage being experienced across the USA, including in the RGV. They are asking the community for support.

“We wanted to let the community know that there is a national Chicken Wing shortage,” said Bobby Saenz, Wing Barn CEO, “and ask for their support and understanding.”

Currently, Wing Barn vendors are not able to supply Wing Barn (or other restaurants) with the volume of traditional chicken wing quantities that are being requested. It is a national issue that has left the industry scrambling.

It is not the vendors who are at fault.  There are many reasons for this crisis, including the ongoing pandemic and the recent freeze. Together, these events have caused chicken populations to decline, supply chains to dwindle and prices to surge.

“We are faced with tough decisions,” said Saenz. “Do we buy from other vendors and sacrifice the quality of chicken wings our customers are used to? Or do we keep our quality, but face ‘running out’ of traditional Chicken wings? Both of these choices disappoint some of our customers. There is no ‘good’ choice.”

Wing barn sent a letter to loyalty members Monday, April 12, asking for their patience if traditional wings run out; asking them to try different menu items, such as their boneless wings or delicious burgers; and asking them to tell their family and friends about the chicken wing shortage.

“There is no time frame when traditional chicken wings will be back to normal,” said Daniel Pompa, Wing Barn Head Chef and Co Founder. “We know we have asked a lot from our customers this year, but we believe our community is rooting for us and have faith they will continue to support our local, family-owned business.”
