Local Leaders Cordova and Urgel-Caporusso Chair Teach for America RGV’s Annual Honor Roll Gala, April 4th

MISSION, Texas – On April 4, 2024, Teach for America RGV, a local nonprofit dedicated to providing equitable education to all students, will host its annual Honor Roll Gala with local leaders Deborah Cordova and Fabiola Ugel-Caporusso serving as co-chairs. The gala celebrates individuals and institutions making significant strides in advancing educational opportunities across the Rio Grande Valley.

Cordova is a resident of Mission and a founding member at Walsh McGurk Cordova Nixon, PLLC. Cordova is known for her commitment to community service and legal advocacy. She has served as past chair of the Rio Grande Valley Partnership Chamber of Commerce. In addition to dedicating her time to Teach For America RGV, she has served on numerous boards, including many others which support children and students throughout the region and state.

“I’m honored to help lead the Honor Roll Gala, a celebration of education excellence in the Rio Grande Valley. Working together, we are forging a brighter future for students,” she said.

Urgel-Caporusso is from McAllen and serves as vice president and commercial relationship manager at Vantage Bank of Texas. An active member of her community, she serves as Honor Roll Gala co-chair of Teach For America RGV and board chair of Leadership McAllen.

“Educational opportunities are fundamental to the future growth and development of the Rio Grande Valley. Teach for America’s innovative programs play a critical role in ensuring educational equity for all students. We urge our community leaders, businesses, and residents to support this year’s Honor Roll Gala,” she said.

“Deborah Cordova and Fabiola Urgel-Caporusso epitomize exemplary leadership in our community. Their dedication to educational excellence aligns perfectly with the mission of Teach For America RGV,” said Ana Gonzalez, executive director of Teach For America RGV. “Through their guidance, the Honor Roll Gala promises to be an inspiring celebration of our collective commitment to providing equitable education for all students in the Rio Grande Valley.”

The Honor Roll Gala, scheduled for 6 p.m. on Thursday, April 4, 2024, at the Mission Events Center, will be an evening of celebration and solidarity in pursuing educational excellence. The event will feature a cocktail reception, dinner, live auction, music, and more.  This year’s honorees include, George H. McShan, VAMOS (The Valley Alliance of Mentors for Opportunities and Scholarships), and Aaron Brenner (RGV ‘95).
