Pharr- Valley Cheer Elite Inferno, a senior large coed 3 team from Pharr, turned up the heat and brought home a D2 Summit National Championship! The Summit All Star Cheerleading Championship is the nation’s most prestigious competition for small gyms. It is the pinnacle of the cheerleading season for level 1-4 teams as well as restricted level 5 teams and is a bid only event.

Held at Walt Disney World Resort’s ESPN Wide World of Sports in Orlando, Fl. on May 13-14, the D2 Summit is the season-capping goal for competitive all-star teams. The 2017 D2 Summit showcased 800 teams with nearly 16,000 competitors from across the United States.

“That’s what makes the D2 Summit so rewarding for the competitors. Only about 3% of the gyms in the nation will even qualify for this event,” VCE Gym Owner, Alex Cano said. “Inferno did it. They beat some of the best teams across the country and climbed their way to the top. Our kids fought hard all season for this amazing win and they left their heart out on that mat. We are so excited to bring the banner and rings home to South Texas.”

This is the third Summit win for Inferno. The team also won top honors in 2013 and 2015. VCE is the only gym in South Texas to have captured the coveted title.
