PHARR – About a dozen local bikers stopped by Carmen Anaya Elementary today, Friday, Sept. 13 to donate more than 300 backpacks filled with school supplies to students as part of the 6th Annual Kickstand for Kids event.
Hundreds of students were greeted at the front of the campus just after 9:00 am with the roar of motorcycle engines and about a dozen members from the McAllen Chapter of the American Bikers Association. The bikers arrived with not only their motorcycles, but more than 300 backpacks filled with school supplies for the majority of the campus.
After distributing some of the backpacks, the bikers were met at the school gym by the Anaya Elementary Choir, the rest of the school, and several gifts of appreciation for the motorcycle group.
“This event makes us feel like the kids have support not only at home and at school, but from the community, and it’s really just heart rendering,” said Anaya Elementary PrincipalBerta Cantu. “It’s just really emotional for us all, so we really appreciate the American Bikers Association coming to our campus.”
Before concluding the event, American Bikers Association First Lady Julia Cannon had to pause to catch her breath after breaking down in tears as she shared just how much this means to her and the rest of the bikers.
“It makes us feel good, we give back to the community and that’s what it’s all about,” she said. “You can’t describe the feeling, it’s just amazing. The gratitude and appreciation from the kids, there are just too many words for it.”
