Texas Border Business
As originally published in Texas Border Business newsprint edition May 2020
It is with great pleasure to introduce our good friend Liz Gonzalez. She told Texas Border Business that what’s going on in the world has inspired her to write the poem (or country-western song) below.
It happened in the Springtime
by Liz Gonzalez
There is a virus among us
A respecter of none it seems
Who attacks prince and pauper
The age’d, young, babes and teens
Thousands fall by the wayside
While others watch from afar
The faithful and the faithless
All growing weary of heart
It’s Springtime in the world
And everything is abloom
Yet it seems terribly wrong
While humans experience such gloom
Technology connects the masses
Where they express their woes
But here’s something to take note of
Something to give you hope
Although life is but a vapor
That briefly hovers in the air
It can be a powerful witness
That can transform another into an heir
Alas, there is a greater virus
One from days of old
That started in the Springtime
When all was good I’m told
It infected the entire planet
As things began to unfold
What sadly started in the Springtime
A long, long, time ago
What will you do with the time given you?
Might I be so bold?
Open that Book covered in cobwebs
With wisdom more precious than gold
There you’ll find God’s antidote
There you’ll find the cure
That came down from Heaven
With foretold humble allure
Believe and you’ll find healing
Of that you can be sure
And you’ll find joy in the journey
As you sojourn here on earth
For tomorrow you’ll meet Jesus
Where no pandemic will prevail
Only the light of God’s glory
As heaven’s choir sing to Him all hail.
