EDINBURG – While voting at the polls during the Primary Runoff, the Hidalgo County Elections Department wants every voter to experience a smooth and safe election. To ensure this occurs, the department has implemented new safety protocols to prevent the spread of COVID-19 at the poll locations.

“Together we can make voting safe and healthy by adhering to the safety protocols we have put in place,” said Elections Administrator Yvonne Ramón.

The Elections Department encourages voters to follow four safety prevention measures before heading to and while they are at the poll locations.  They include:

1.      Self – screening for COVID-19 symptoms, such as, fever, cough,     

        shortness of breath, muscle pain and etc.

2.      Wearing facial coverings

3.      Following safe and clean voting procedures by disinfecting and washing                  hands

4.      Practicing social distancing 

“Throughout the entire voting process our poll workers will be implementing consistent disinfecting procedures and guiding voters to do the same while casting their ballot,” said Ramón. “By working together we can prevent the spread of COVID-19.”

Early Voting begins Monday, June 29 and will run through Thursday, July 10, 2020.  The poll locations will be closed Friday, July 3 and Saturday, July 4, in observance of the Fourth of July holiday.  Election Day is Tuesday, July 14, 2020. For more election information, please visit our website at www.hidalgocounty.us/elections, or call our office at (956)318-2570.
