The RGV Hispanic Chamber will host their annual “Legislative Report Card Luncheon” on Wednesday, July 12th from 11am to 1pm at the Double Tree Hotel & Suites in McAllen. The annual event has federal and state elected officials that represent the Rio Grande Valley give a report on the bills that were passed during session in Austin and Washington DC and how they will affect the Valley. The Texas state senators and representatives will also discuss what else is expected in the upcoming Special Session.
Congress will still be in session, thus last week when the RGVHCC President/CEO Cynthia M. Sakulenzki and the Vice Chair of Government Affairs, Attorney Alex Martinez, visited with Senator’s John Cornyn and Ted Cruz, and Congressmen Vicente Gonzalez, Henry Cuellar and Filemon Vela, asked that they send video’s to give their reports, which they agreed. Confirming so far as attending are Senator Juan Chuy Hinojosa, Representatives Terry Canales, Bobby Guerra, Jr., Oscar Longoria and Rene Oliveira. After the officials give their reports, those in attendance will get an opportunity to ask questions and/or make a statement.
Sponsors to the event will get to sit with an elected official during lunch. Sponsorships are $3,000, $2.000, $1,000 and $500. Reserved tables of 10 are $750 and tickets are $50 each. Sponsoring thus far are Armondo Brennan, New York Life; Rio Grande Regional Hospital and Texas Gas Service. For sponsorship or ticket information call the RGVHCC office at 928-0060.
