“It’s Time to Stop Having to “Lean In” and ask Men to Stand Up!! This is the only topic at the RGV Hispanic Chamber of Commerce “Latina Leadership Conference” that involves men as the speakers.
The Conference is scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 13th at the Edinburg Conference Center at Renaissance from 7:30 am to 3:00 pm. The panel is made up of J.D. Salinas, Asst. Vice President, AT&T External and Legislative Affairs, Adrian Villarreal, President/CEO of International Bank of Commerce and Jimmy R. Rivera, Managing Partner of South Texas in Corpus Christi with New York Life. These gentlemen have a number of women who work under their management.
Mr. Rivera has been with New York Life in 2002 capturing all of the company’s awards – Life Centurion Award, Life All-Star Award and the Career Foundation Award. In 2004 he was recognized as the Rookie of the year and qualified for two consecutive Executive Councils. He moved on to a Partner position in October 2004 while becoming one of the top 10 Partners in the company in 2009. He became Managing Partner in December 2012 and has grown a large team that includes many women.
Mr. Salinas is currently the Asst. Vice President, AT&T External and Legislative Affairs in San Antonio. He covers regional, state, and municipal responsibility for legislative advocacy in San Antonio and South Texas. Prior to joining AT&T, Salinas was the managing partner of Maroon Consultants, a public affairs consulting firm he founded in 2006. In November 2009, he was appointed by President Obama as Regional Adm. of the General Services Administration (GSA) activities in Texas, Arkansas, Louisiana. Oklahoma, and New Mexico, and was responsible for 1,350 government buildings. Prior to his appointment, he served for three years as County Judge of Hidalgo County where he led more than 3,000 county employees and received the Texas Association of Counties “Best Practice Award”.
Known for his leadership and ability to develop innovative and effective solutions to both public and private sector issues, Salinas holds a Bachelor of Science from Texas A&M University and a Master of Public Administration from UT Pan American. He currently serves on the Board of Directors of Texas Border Coalition, Texas A&M Extension Advisory, the Rio Grande Valley Partnership, and the San Antonio Hispanic Chamber of Commerce – Government Affairs Co-Chair.
Mr. Adrian Villarreal is the President & CEO of IBC Bank-McAllen. He has 29 years of experience in the banking industry and has been with IBC Bank for 25 years. Villarreal recently served as the executive manager of the bank’s commercial and retail banking departments. As President, he oversees the entire Hidalgo County market which includes 29 branches located in McAllen, Edinburg, Mission, Weslaco, Pharr, San Juan, Alamo, Alton, Palmhurst, and Penitas.
In keeping with IBC tradition, Villarreal is committed to serving his community. He previously served as the treasurer of United Way of South Texas, served on the board and campaign chair and was also awarded the prestigious South Texan Hero Award. He has also served as Treasurer for the McAllen Chamber of Commerce and as a catechist for 9th grande Faith Formation for Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church.
The gentlemen will face a variety of questions regarding their support of women in the business world and their thoughts on how women can climb the ladder as well. Keynote Speaker will be Maria Rios, CEO of Nation Waste, LLC. out of Houston. Ms. Rios is well recognized throughout the United States Corporate world and has expanded her business to Europe as well.
