Texas Border Business
On Wednesday, May 25, 2016, the McAllen Chamber of Commerce at 10:00 a.m. will hold a press conference to announce the website launch of the Latina Hope Program store, LatinaHope.com. The store will feature products made by the women who participate in the Latina Hope Program, which is designed to facilitate the learning, networking and acting of women micro-entrepreneurs who want to start a new micro-business and advance their product idea to a more tangible and profitable point. At the press conference two Latina Hope participants, Simona Gonzalez and Lydia Hernandez of McAllen, will discuss how the program has benefitted them on their path to market.
The Latina Hope program is a collaboration between the Chamber, the United Way of South Texas, Wells Fargo and Calvary Baptist Church. The women who participate in the program create products to showcase and sell at craft fairs, women’s events, and to family and friends. But with the launch of the Latina Hope website they can now sell their products online allowing them to reach a much larger customer base. Products include handmade jewelry, scarves, soaps, crotchet items and other unique items. Each purchase made on the website will help support Latina Hope women and their families reach self-sustainability.
The process for purchase will be simple, visit LatinaHope.com, select the products you like and after the purchase is completed, the customer will receive an email with their receipt and a picture of the product they just purchased. The customer can either pick up their purchase at the McAllen Chamber of Commerce, 1200 Ash Ave., or have it shipped directly to them free of charge.
Further information about the women you are supporting will be available on the website, a picture and a bio will display their personal story and the particular products they create.
The Latina Hope program women meet the first and third Wednesday of the month at Calvary Baptist Church, 1600 Harvey St, McAllen, TX and is open to all community members who are working on new ideas. The program is conducted in Spanish. RSVP is required as seating is limited. For additional information or to RSVP, please contact Jorge Sanchez, (956) 682-2871 or jsanchez@mcallenchamber.com
