Laredo College is always striving to offer new programs to help enhance our community’s economic development and academic advancement. In May 2021, our institution began offering exclusive access to a comprehensive program, the Professional Bus Driver Training, to U.S. Border Patrol agents.
“Laredo College aspires to meet the community’s workforce demands, and we take pride in being part of this training initiative with the U. S. Border Patrol,” Dean of Community Education Sandra Cortez said.
Our experienced instructors have been training agents with the necessary driving skills to become professional bus drivers. This three-week course provides hands-on training for optimal experience, and quality instruction in transportation safety, applicable statutes, regulations, operations and more.
The program provides training to five students per group. To date, five Border Patrol agents have successfully earned their license and five are currently in the final phase of the program.
The Class B Commercial Driver’s License with Passenger Endorsement is necessary for professionals in any field wishing to drive a bus. Although this program was launched for Border Patrol agents, it will now be open to other agencies and their employees. To qualify for the program, those registered must pass a DOT physical and DOT pre-employment drug test prior to the first day of class.
