Texas Border Business
Student success has always been Laredo College’s priority. Their accomplishments and achievements reflect the difference our institution makes in someone’s life. Hence, the continuous collaboration with various entities around the nation to provide scholarships, training and more.
This year, LC embarked on a partnership with the Be It! Foundation, a non-profit organization that serves South Texas residents. Its mission is to promote higher education through economic assistance. This foundation provides economic relief opportunities through their programs, Students in Higher Education, Pay it Forward Mini Grants for Organization or Individuals, You Matter and Emergency Assistance. They also offer volunteer and donation opportunities for those community members who wish to help students from around San Antonio to Laredo.
Thanks to the collaboration between the Be It! Foundation and LC, eight scholars were awarded up to $5,000 a year to continue their academic endeavors. These students will not only receive this monetary scholarship but were fortunate to be this year’s image for the Be It! Foundation.
Arabellah Lozano, Caleb Flores, Florence Renteria, and Anali Rodriguez are Laredo residents; Sabrina DeBreau, Shyla Bell, Ana Rodriguez, and Marcella Favarato are from San Antonio.
“Laredo College has been a vital partner in the creation of programs whose aim is to increase access to quality childhood early education as well as trauma-informed treatment programs to serve South Texas,” the foundation stated, Dr. Cio Hernandez, Foundation CEO.
Our institution hosted the inaugural gala on July 13 at the South Campus, where honored guests celebrated the collaboration with scholarship recipients and foundation board members. Donations are geared toward more scholarship opportunities.
In the continuous effort to provide training in high demand, LC in conjunction with the Be It! Foundation will offer EMDR training for licensed mental health providers.
