LAREDO, Texas – The City of Laredo Mayor, Pete Saenz, and Members of Council recognized several individuals during the regularly scheduled City Council Meeting on Monday, February 7th. These recognitions were given to two high school students and four employees from the City of Laredo. The City of Laredo continues to seek and honor the achievements of local residents and City employees who represent Laredo through their professional careers or extracurricular activities. The recipients included:
Melanie Duron
- The second recipient included Melanie Duron, a high school senior at Martin High School. She was recognized for her accomplishments in athletics, academics, and for being named the Laredo Morning Times Female Athlete of the Year. She recently signed a letter of intent to participate in the track and field team in Texas State University.
Employees of the Year
- After recognizing both high school students, the Laredo City Council continued the meeting and recognized four City of Laredo employees to be named the City’s “2021 Employees of the Year”. This includes staff whose work is mostly conducted indoors, outdoors, and one from the Laredo Police Department or Fire Department. Although originally the program was set to recognize three individuals, there was a tie between two employees in the Laredo Fire Department. These four individuals had previously been recognized as Employees of the Quarter and were considered for the Employee of the Year program. The recipients included:
- Cesar O. Baez, Crew Leader for the Solid Waste Department
- Carlos I. Ramirez, Jr., Micro-Computer Specialist for the City Secretary Department
- Ricardo Oliva, Jr., Fire Driver for the Laredo Fire Department
- David Esparza, Fire Captain for the Laredo Fire Department
