Laredo Chamber of Commerce to Honor Miguel Conchas

Laredo, Texas — Laredo Chamber of Commerce Officials are pleased to announce “Bon Voyage Mr. Conchas”, a spectacular evening celebrating the retirement and career achievements of Laredo Chamber President and CEO, Miguel Conchas.

The celebration gala will honor one of Laredo’s most prominent business leaders and recognize his commitment to Laredo’s businesses as well as the economic vitality of the community, and the tourism marketing efforts of the City and the County. 

The formal affair is slated for Saturday, July 24, 2021 at 6:30 p.m. at the Laredo Country Club. The exciting event will take guests aboard a fictional cruise ship, and feature delectable food stations, a Captain’s Champagne Toast, and live musical entertainment, among many other surprises, sure to give him the farewell he deserves.

Conchas’ Chamber Career spans over 35 years. He was appointed to the position of President/CEO in 1992. Prior to that, and since 1986, he was the Director of the Laredo Convention & Visitors Bureau, which at the time was part of the Laredo Chamber of Commerce.

Before his Chamber career began, he held positions at Laredo State University (now TAMIU) and the Laredo Independent School District where he served as an elementary school teacher. 

Throughout the years, Conchas has received numerous awards and accolades: He was named Tiger Legend by Martin High School, was the recipient of the Laredo Community College IMPACT Award, recognized by The White House as a “Champion for Change” in Washington, DC, was elected Consejero Titular to Mexico’s Instituto de Mexicanos en el Exterior (Institute for Mexican Abroad), he was recognized by Texas A&M International University to form part of TAMIU Portraits of Alumni Achievement, was the recipient of the Outstanding Commitment Award presented by the Association of Laredo Forwarding Agents (ALFA), he was recognized as a Tejano Achiever in the area of Economic Development by LULAC Chapter 12 of Laredo, Texas, was the recipient of the Eagle Compass Exemplary Life Award, he was named Paul Harris Fellow by the Laredo Gateway Rotary Club, and was the recipient of the Ohtli Recognition. Presented by Mexico’s Secretariat of Foreign Relations for work in support of Mexicans living abroad.  

In addition, Conchas was appointed to the U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service Citizens Advisory Panel (CAP) by U.S. Attorney General Janet Reno in 1995.  He also participated in the planning, design, and creation of the Laredo-Corpus Christi Info Center in Monterrey, Mexico (presently the Laredo Trade & Travel Center).  The first promotional office created as a joint effort between two Texas cities in a foreign country.

As an active supporter of NAFTA, he promoted the passage of NAFTA at the local, State and national levels.  In 1993 participated in a meeting at the 

White House with Vice President Al Gore to organize support for this agreement.
