La Plaza and Rio Grande Valley Premium Outlets invite area residents and visitors to enjoy extended hours and prime savings during tax-free weekend.
La Plaza and Rio Grande Valley Premium Outlets are pleased to offer shoppers the opportunity to purchase back-to-school necessities without paying sales tax on qualifying items in accordance with the Texas Sales Tax Holiday. The 3-day sales tax break begins on Friday, August 9 and ends on Sunday, August 11. During this period, retailers will not be required to collect state and local sales use tax on most footwear, clothing, backpacks and school supplies priced less than $100.
Before hitting the mall, shoppers can check out even more savings by visiting the Simon Retailer Showcase where coupons and other retailer deals await at simon.com.
Not sure what clothes are school uniform approved? Stop by Simon Guest Services/Mall Management Office for a list of school requirements. Additionally, a bilingual list of tax-exempt items will be provided at La Plaza Mall.

For shoppers of all ages, La Plaza will host a special Back to School Fair in partnership with R Communications. The event will take place on Saturday, August 10 from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. Over 350 backpacks filled with school supplies will be distributed. First come, first serve!

Rio Grande Valley Premium Outlets is excited to host a “Descendants 3”-themed Disney Junior Play Date on Saturday, August 10 at 11a.m. in the Food Court. Families can participate in a variety of fun activities based on the new Disney Channel Original movie! Activities will include music, crafts, photo opportunities and more!
