Weslaco, Texas–Beginning today, July 1, 2015, KRGV Channel 5 is proud to provide Spanish translation of all newscasts on the secondary audio channel of your TV.

Channel 5 is a communications icon in the Rio Grande Valley and has distinguished itself by offering one of the best English newscasts presented by very talented anchors like Letty Garza, Oscar Adame and Cary Zayas, to name a few. Today, the newscast is available in Spanish by experienced translators and radio veterans like Manny Lopez and Lina Rodriguez. With this effort, Channel 5 is reaching almost one hundred percent of the Valley’s population. The service is also available to viewers on the Mexico border, from Matamoros to Camargo.

Last night, during an event where Letty was honored by the McAllen Hispanic Chamber titled “RGV Women of Distinction Awards Dinner”, she took the opportunity to break the news to the public about Channel 5  SAP project.

Viewers watching Channel 5 News in English will see no change. Viewers preferring to watch the same newscast with Spanish translation will choose the SAP (Secondary Audio Program) on their TV remote and enjoy the Spanish version of all newscasts.

“It’s the same newscast our viewers know and trust delivered live, in Spanish, from our Weslaco studios by a team of very talented translators. Once our viewers learn how to choose the SAP option on their TV, they will have the choice of listening in English or Spanish,” said John Kittleman, General Manager KRGV Channel 5 News.

Jenny Martinez, News Director added, “Spanish speaking viewers have chosen Channel 5 News as their newscast of choice for many years. Now they’ll be able to truly understand everything they’re hearing and seeing. We are so honored to have this wonderful opportunity to serve the community even better by reaching both English and Spanish speakers.”

Spanish audio can be selected using your TV remote by pressing the SAP, Audio or MTS button.
