Last year, Keep America Beautiful Great American Cleanup engaged more than 5.4 million volunteers and participants across the country to take action in their local communities to create positive change and lasting impact.

“This is a great opportunity to show civic pride by coming out to volunteer in the community we all love. We invite all schools, civic groups, churches, organizations, as well as families who want to give of their time to volunteer in celebration of Earth Day”, said Chris Lash, Program Coordinator.

The Great American Cleanup kicks off each March with events occurring from spring through fall. On Saturday, April 2, 2016, volunteers will gather at Municipal Park -1921 N. Bicentennial from 8am to 12noon. Volunteers will be issued safety vests, gloves, and trash bags and then assigned a designated area to pick up litter along city streets, trails, and parks. They will be transported and picked up from their assigned sites once the cleanup has been completed. Volunteers will be treated to a free t-shirt, hot dogs, soda, and various raffle prizes at the park after the cleanup.

Last year, 807 volunteers collected 4,000 pounds of trash from schools, streets, and parks across McAllen donating a total of 3,228 volunteer hours.
